Hey! I have decided to change the font, in hopes that it will be a bit easier to read.
This week was, er, interesting. Definitely a learning experience. Every. Single. Day. But, it's Sunday night. Which means tomorrow is Monday. Which means tomorrow is a new start. Knowing what I now know, I can go through this next week and hopefully it will be a bit better.
For those of you who are wondering what went wrong this week, it was essentially just very dramatic and emotional and it seemed like everyone was going through this huge crisis... And, well, honestly a lot of times it feels like people expect me to be perfect. Don't get me wrong, I love helping people and giving advice and the fact that so many people trust me so much. But what people don't realize is that I have things I'd like to talk about, too.
Anyway, I was just having a difficult time last week, and then there were rumors, and more drama... But it's over now. And I'm glad!
My friend Ellee gave me this wonderful idea. And I've already started! She bought a journal which she is now using to write down all of her thoughts. And I'm doing it now, too. It's like a diary/journal, but not so limiting. I literally just write down anything that pops into my head, observations, questions, things like that. And it's very relaxing. It's like you can really get out all the deep and personal and philisophical and intimate and crazy and weird and girly and manly and ridiculous and rude and lovely and sweet and beautiful and poetic and romantic and charming thoughts you have. I love it!
I had a terrific film class this Saturday. I take notes every time, but this time I took a TON of notes. Peter Stelzer (acclaimed actor and producer) teaches the class, along with Marla Finn. Everything he says is sheer genius. Really. And yesterday, Marla wasn't there. So it was all him. And everything was marvelous. I thought I'd share some things I wrote down with all of you.
- Actors are story tellers.
- Don't wing it. Don't ever bother not doing something.
- Tell the story of the character by behaving as the character in the story.
- Film is a visual art, not a literary one.
- "Law school is not a great place to learn how to entertain people." (On the fact that "producers are lawyers.")
- "We don't hire performaces. We hire the actor/human being because the performance elements will change."
- Let your personality out because when you play characters you must play close enough to your own personality so that you can't do anything wrong no matter what you say or do.
- Become a story teller. Become expressive.
- First beat is the most important choice.
- Let the story affect you more.
- Make your choices clear so that the story isn't vague.
- Be as relaxed as a normal human being would be in THIS situation.
- Be the character from the moment you park your car.
- "The first moment makes me watch the scene, the last moment makes me remember." (On film and television auditions.)
- Glance down at your script at least once in every audition so that it feels like you're still directable.
Those are just a few notes I thought were really important. (:
I realize now that maybe the fact that I'm an actor is the reason that it bothers me that people don't act like they care enough to listen to what I have to say.
I definitely pulled, like, fourteen books off the shelves at Barnes & Noble today. I went with my friend Greer, and she practically fell on the floor. Haha. (: I always take FOREVER there. I pull out anywhere between ten and seventeen books from the shelves, then get coffee, and then sit down at a table and pick three from my huge pile that I end up buying.
Today the winners were "Dash & Lily's Book of Dares," "One Week in December," and "The Gum Thief." I'm really excited to read them! But I also have "It's Kind of a Funny Story," "This Lullaby," "Oogy," and "A Crack in the Sky" to read from a previous bookstore trip. I've got some reading to do!
I also spent some time with my songs today, and I'm going to post a song or two tonight (the lyrics)...
Alright, I think that's all for today! So, without further adu...
SONG: "Matches," by The Format (I have a special, unique connection to The Format now, which you will never know).
LINE: "You still haven't called, so i'll wait 'til they're closing the bars. I made a wish, but the match never lit."
This could be taken very differently depending on who reads/hears/sings it. I know what it means for me, but what does it mean for you? I'm leaving it up to you tonight to determine this one. For yourself.
I really like your post last night, especially the acting part (:
